💰 Charity Is A Business. Let Me Show You How To Raise Big Money! 💰

My 10 commandments for charity fundraising domination!

Picture this: You've got a cause close to your heart, and you're gearing up for a charity event that'll leave a lasting impact. But how do you ensure it's a sold-out success putting big money in the bank? After raising hundreds of thousands of pounds in my own charity work, this is a question I get asked all the time.

Well, wonder no more! I’m here to guide you through the process. You’re about to discover my winning formula in 10 easy steps, each packed with actionable insights to elevate your fundraising game.

1. This is a Business:

Let's kick things off with a reality check – charity events are serious business. I can't stress this enough. Treat them with the same level of dedication and strategy as any entrepreneurial venture. You are now in the business of charity and all the same rules apply. The only difference is the ‘profit’ you make is there to plough in to your great causes.

2. Your Network is Everything:

Networking isn't just my favourite word; it's your secret weapon in the world of charity events. If you have’’t built out a killer network then you are going to be in trouble because you need to be leveraging your connections for maximum success.

3. No Magic Tax Advantage:

Let's clear the air on this one. While tax advantages exist, they're not the be-all and end-all of fundraising, so don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is a quick fix to getting people to pony up their cash. Tax advantage or no tax advantage, people are still parting with real money. Fundraising success is about getting in front of the right audience and showcasing the real impact of donations.

4. Have a Great Product:

Your charity event is your product, and it needs to shine. From venue selection to entertainment choices, every detail matters in crafting an unforgettable experience. Don’t think people will turn up just because the even is for charity. Their time and their money is limited, and they want to spend both at somewhere they will have a great time. Crap product = no customers!

5. It's Great to have Celebrities:

But don’t expect them to come for free. A celebrity is their own product and they want to achieve maximum value for it. These people will help drive more business for you, so think of it as a marketing cost. But if you watch the video you’ll find out how I offset that cost at my events.

6. Think Long Term:

Success isn't just about one event; it's about building lasting relationships. Just like I teach in all of my networking videos, you need to play the long game and give people value to build great relationships. Hopefully your charity is going to be around for many years to come and you will be putting on many more events, so don’t get caught up in short sighted small transactions. Play the long game for the big bucks. In the video I share insights on nurturing donors and setting the stage for continued support.

7. Ticket Price:

Setting the right ticket price is crucial. But don’t make the mistake of thinking you have to make a profit on the event from ticket sales alone. Yes it’s great if you can, but there is more than 1 way to skin a cat and there is a lot more ways to make money from a charity event than getting hung up on the ticket price alone.

8. Advertising Only Works If…:

You have a great product. Refer to step number 4! You need to advertise, you need to invest in marketing, but its money down the drain if your product isn’t killer.

9. Charge As Much As Possible:

Just like in any business, sales success is about giving value. If you give great value you can charge any price you want. Don’t get caught up thinking about what you can afford, just give a great product, offer great value and raise your prices to the roof!

10. The 80:20 Rule:

Efficiency is key, and the 80:20 rule is your guiding principle. If applied properly you are going to raise the majority of your money from just a handful of people. I'll show you how to focus your efforts where they'll yield the greatest results, maximising your fundraising potential.

So, you've got Steve Jobs, the man himself, dropping some wisdom bombs you really should take note of. Picture him: turtleneck, trainers, and his iconic charisma. Now, when he says "People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on," he's setting the stage.

People often mistake focus for just saying yes to everything that seems good or shiny. But Steve isn’t having any of that. Focus, according to Jobs, is about saying no. Yeah, you heard it right, saying no! But not just to any old thing, oh no. He's talking about saying no to a hundred other good ideas.

Think about it, you've got a hundred good ideas floating around, tempting you left, right, and centre. But if you're serious about making something great, you’ve got to be picky. You’ve got to say no to those other tempting distractions.

This is about making the tough calls, saying no to the good so you can say yes to the great. And that, is how you focus like a boss.
